A group of eight students from the Department of Translation and Interpretation (TRIN) participated in the Erasmus+ youth project held in the city of Angoulême in France from November 22 to 30.
During the project, Bilkent University students worked with other young people coming from Italy, the Czech Republic, France and also from Ankara’s Keçiören municipality to find the causes of and solutions to various kinds of violence seen at school, at home and in their immediate surroundings by getting to know each other through dialogue and discussion.
In the workshops, the participants all had the opportunity to tell about their experiences of violence and express their ideas on the topic. Throughout the full week of workshops and dialogue, they also had fun in the International Café, where every nation presented the food and beverages of their culture, and in events such as national nights, where the Turkish groups staged a traditional pre-wedding kına (henna) ceremony as well as traditional Anatolian dances.
Most importantly, all participants were able to take part in a medium of cultural exchange through which they began understanding others while at the same time helping others understand them.
