On Monday, November 21, Bilkent Composition will host a performance by the Black Pencil ensemble, to take place in the Bilkent Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Sponsors of the event include the VisiSonor and Fonds Podium Kunstein foundations.
Netherlands-based Black Pencil is an innovative ensemble consisting of a unique combination of instruments. The group performs a diverse and adventurous array of repertoire ranging from early music to cutting-edge new music composed especially for them. The concert at Bilkent will feature five pieces composed for the ensemble as well as an arrangement of Luciano Berio’s “Folk Songs.”
In addition to the concert, Black Pencil will conduct a workshop on the preceding day, November 20, where they will read through works that have been written for them by Bilkent composers. Dutch composer Roderik de Man will be assisting with the workshop and also working further with the composers.
Both the concert and the workshop are free and open to the public.
