The Bilkent University Board of Trustees met on February 17, 2015. Present at the meeting were Board Chairman Ali Doğramacı, Vice Chairman Ergül Tunçbilek, İlker Baybars, Turgay Coşkun, Gülsev Kale, Ali Karaosmanoğlu, Yahya Laleli, Ahmet Nalbur, Şencan Özme, Muhsin Saraçlar, Z. Boğaç Üner and Rector Abdullah Atalar.
Items on the agenda for discussion by the Board of Trustees included a number of proposals that had been put forth by the University Senate.
The Board reviewed and approved the Senate’s proposals regarding some changes to the university’s Academic Rules and Regulations and BUSEL regulations. These changes were made in order to comply with the government’s higher education amendments. The revised regulations may be seen on the university’s main web page.
The board also approved a proposal to bestow an honorary doctorate upon Daron Acemoğlu, professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who is among the most cited economists in the world according to IDEAS/RePEc.
In addition, the Board reviewed and approved the Senate’s proposals regarding some changes to the regulations of the Bilkent University Acoustics and Underwater Technologies Research Center (BASTA).
Following discussion of the above, the Board of Trustees set the tuition rates for the upcoming academic year. For Turkish students, tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year will be 26,080 TL. Tuition for all international students will be $13,950. These fees include 8% VAT.
