The most recent meeting of the Bilkent University Board of Trustees took place the week before last. Present at the meeting were Board Chairman Ali Doğramacı, Vice Chairman Ergün Toğrol, Vice Chairman Ergül Tunçbilek, Gülsev Kale, Ali Karaoğmanoğlu, Yahya Laleli, Ahmet Nalbur, Şencan Özme, Muhsin Saraçlar, Lütfü Sel, and Rector Abdullah Atalar.
The main item on the agenda for discussion by the Board of Trustees was the establishment of the university’s new Institute for Advanced Studies. The Board of Trustees reviewed the final procedures for the establishment of the institute. The members of the Board of Directors are to be, under the presidency of Prof. Ali Doğramacı, Prof. Adnan Akay, Prof. Kürşat Aydoğan, Prof. Metin Heper and Prof. Cemal Yalabık. The institute aims to promote high-level research, identify and develop interdisciplinary areas of research, and assist young researchers in their advancement. The Board of Trustees approved this proposal.
The other major topic on the agenda was the construction taking place on campus, including the BLIS building, the swimming pool and the new graduate student housing.
Following discussion of the above, the Board of Trustees set the tuition rates for the upcoming academic year.
For Turkish students admitted to Bilkent in the years 2005 to 2014, tuition will be 24.080 TL. This corresponds to an 8.22% increase over the previous academic year. Tuition for all international students will be $13,950. These fees include 8% VAT.
