The Bilkent University Board of Trustees met on February 17, 2017. Present at the meeting were Board Chairman Ali Doğramacı, Vice Chairman Ergül Tunçbilek, Board members İlker Baybars, Gülsev Kale, Ali Karaosmanoğlu, Tezer Kutluk, Yahya Laleli, Ahmet Nalbur, Şencan Özme and Z. Boğaç Üner, and Rector Abdullah Atalar.
Items on the agenda for discussion by the Board included a number of proposals that had been put forward by the University Senate.
The Board approved the Senate’s proposal for a new Teacher Education Unit in the Graduate School of Education.
The board also approved a proposal to bestow an honorary doctorate upon Dr. Marie-Claire King, professor of genome sciences and medicine (medical genetics) at the University of Washington, who is known for three major accomplishments: identifying breast cancer genes; demonstrating that humans and chimpanzees are 99% genetically identical; and applying genomic sequencing to identify victims of human rights abuses.
In addition, the Board reviewed and approved the Senate’s proposals regarding some changes to the BUSEL regulations on teaching and examinations.
On other matters, the Board of Trustees set tuition rates for the 2017-2018 academic year. Tuition will be 31,240 TL for Turkish students admitted in or before 2015, and 33,200 TL for those admitted during or after 2016. Tuition will be $13,950 for all international students admitted in or before 2015, and $14,500 for those admitted during or after 2016. These fees include 8% VAT.
