The Bilkent University Board of Trustees met last week on Monday, March 28 via video conference. Present at the meeting were Board of Trustees Chair Gülsev Kale, Vice Chair Ergül Tunçbilek, Board members Ayhan Atlıman, Ümit Çatalyürek, Mefharet Kocatepe, Tezer Kutluk, Yahya Laleli, Ahmet Nalbur, Ogan Ocalı, Şencan Özme, Meral Özsoyoğlu, Muhsin Saraçlar, Kadriye Yurdakök and Rector Abdullah Atalar.
Items on the agenda for discussion by the Board included a number of proposals that had been put forward by the University Senate.
The Board approved the establishment of a Center for Law and Technology Implementation and Research (Hukuk ve Teknoloji Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi).
The Board also reviewed and approved the proposal of the committee tasked with recommending a candidate to fill the position of Bilkent University rector. The term of office of the university’s current rector, Prof. Abdullah Atalar, will end on May 24, 2022.
After the meeting, Prof. Kale sent a message to the Bilkent community announcing that the Board had selected Prof. Kürşat Aydoğan (currently serving as vice rector for administrative and financial affairs) as Prof. Atalar’s replacement and will submit his name to the Council of Higher Education to be officially appointed by the president of the Republic of Turkey as the new rector of the university for the term 2022–2026.
In her message, Prof. Kale also expressed the Board’s gratitude to Prof. Atalar, who has served as Bilkent’s rector since 2010, “for his work carried out with merit and superior success in line with the aims, mission and vision of our University.”
