On Monday, April 9, Issa Boro, first counselor of the Embassy of Burkina Faso, gave an hour-long presentation in French to an audience of over fifty Department of Translation and Interpretation students and faculty members.
After providing information about Burkina Faso’s 70 different languages, the role of French in the education system and the country’s holidays, Mr. Boro answered questions on a variety of topics, including religion, cooperation with other Francophone African countries, the status of women in the country and Turkey–Burkina Faso relations. Audience members also asked what independence had brought to the country and how people speaking so many different languages are able to get along.
