On Thursday, March 24, the Genç Hukukçular Club hosted a lecture by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. The topic of Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu’s talk was “Gündeme Dair.”
The event attracted interest from both students and the media. As well as speaking on his topic, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu answered a number of questions from members of the audience on issues including parliamentary immunity, the recent terror attacks and security measures.
In his answers to these questions, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu stressed the importance of democracy. “If you bring democracy to a country and political responsibility works properly, and you also change foreign policy, most of these problems will disappear,” he said.
Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu also shared his opinions on the Kurdish issue and talked about his party’s solutions regarding it. Here again, he argued that positive change was only possible with a stronger democracy in place.
Notably, the CHP leader acknowledged shortcomings in the CHP’s past performance in opposition, and asked for suggestions for improvement, stating, “It would not be true if I said we have done everything perfectly in our role as the main opposition party. We may have made mistakes. If you can offer any feedback about our deficiencies, I will greatly appreciate it. We are trying to do a good and respectable job in opposition.”
