Last week, Bilkent University Library hosted the first “Elsevier Turkey E-Book Forum,” organized and sponsored by Elsevier, a global publishing and information company specializing in science and health. The aim of the conference was to explore the role of electronic books in scientific/academic communication, and to allow different stakeholders to air their opinions and ideas concerning this phenomenon.
Among the topics discussed were: “The Role of E-Books in Academic Libraries: The Bilkent University Library Perspective” by Dr. Ebru Kaya, Bilkent University library director; “E-Books as Research Facilitators: Helping Researchers via Content and Technology and Supporting Libraries” by the Elsevier regional sales director for online books; “E-Book Usage in Turkey and Usage Trends in Turkey” by Mohamed Moawad; “The Publishing Process From an Author’s Perspective” by Asst. Prof. Tolga Bölükbaşı (POLS); and “E-Book Consortium Experience Sharing: The Colorado Experience” by Ayhan Akanay Saraçoğlu, Elsevier sales manager, Turkey.
