Bilkent students, are you artistically inclined? Do you enjoy working with computer graphics? Are you good with marketing strategies? If the answer to at least one of these questions is “yes,” then you may be interested in entering our Library Week poster competition, entitled “The Library of Tomorrow, Today.” The competition will run from February 2 until March 13. The three best submissions will be selected by an anonymous jury of Bilkent instructors and librarians, and the prizes will be given by the rector during Library Week (March 30-April 3). This semester, our regular Library Lunchtime Lecture series will continue with three exciting talks by Bilkent professors. On March 5, Prof. Fazlı Can (CS) will start us off with a lecture entitled “Things Hidden Behind the Numbers of İnce Memed.” Our second speaker will be Prof. Orhan Güvenen, (ACC, chair, and director of the Institute of World Systems, Economies, and Strategic Research), who will offer some comments on science methodology and transdisciplinarity on April 2. And to round things off, Dr. Ece Göztepe Çelebi, associate professor in the Faculty of Law, will deliver the final lunchtime lecture for the academic year on May 7. Further details about these talks will be announced nearer their dates.
As mentioned already, in March-April 2015 Turkey will hold its 51st Library Week, this year with the theme of intercultural dialogue and libraries. As you know, Bilkent University is highly ranked among academic institutions worldwide and has, in addition to its large international faculty, a growing number of international students. This semester, the Library is planning to organize a series of events and activities that will bring together our Turkish students and international and exchange students, and help develop intercultural dialogue. Please check future issues of Bilkent News and follow the Library on social media for more information.
Whether you come to study, borrow a book, listen to a lecture or enjoy a toasted sandwich and soup, we look forward to seeing you all in the Library, and wish everyone a successful spring semester!
