The Department of Architecture is hosting an exhibition by the İzmir Chamber of Architects, entitled “Modern and Memory  ‘Erased Traces’” (Modern ve Bellek “Silinen İzler”). The opening took place on Monday, November 4.

The exhibition features thirty panels depicting the transformation of certain historically rich sites in İzmir, including İncirlikuyu and Karşıyaka. It shows how they have morphed into anonymity through a “modernization process” that involved stripping various structures and streets of their identity.

This is a quite compact exhibit, which includes some striking photographs. It is on display here for only 10 days before returning to Izmir. Those who wish to view it still have the opportunity to stop by the FADA Exhibition Hall in the FD Building through November 14.
