On April 25, renowned Finnish architects Mikko Heikkinen and Juha Leiviskä delivered lectures at the Department of Architecture, illuminating their architectural practices and philosophies.

Mr. Heikkinen’s lecture, titled “Serious Play,” took as its theme the architect’s recent source of ideas for his projects: his daily playtime with his grandchildren.

Mr. Leiviskä, who in 1997 received the honor of being named the architecture member of the Academy of Finland, in his lecture reviewed the key projects of his long career. He explained how the building traditions of the Nordic countries, central Europe and Turkey have inspired his architectural creations, and emphasized the importance of history in this respect.

After the lectures, Mr. Heikkinen, Mr. Leiviskä, representatives of Bilkent University and members of Ankara’s architectural community attended a reception at the Embassy of Finland to celebrate the two architects’ lifetime achievements and mark their visit to Turkey.
