On December 15 and 16, the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management (THM) celebrated French culture, with the weekly menu at its practice restaurant, Le Piment Rouge, featuring French cuisine. To highlight the occasion, on December 16 the department hosted French Ambassador Hervé Magro, his spouse and diplomats for a visit that included a luncheon at the restaurant.
For the event, students of the department prepared and served examples from French cuisine, including crème brûlée using Mrs. Magro’s own recipe, under the supervision of chef instructor Elif Denizci and service instructor Ali Ünal. Among the guests at the luncheon were Prof. Altay Güvenir, dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences; Kamer Rodoplu, advisor to the dean; Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Collins Keens, associate dean; Asst. Prof. Eda Gürel, chair of the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management; Sophie Gauthier, director of the French Institut in Ankara; and Paul Hémar, secretary-general at the French Embassy in Turkey.
Mr. Magro made very positive comments about the French food served at the luncheon. The event provided an opportunity to highlight the collaboration between Bilkent and its partner universities in France and the desire on both sides to continue and intensify that collaboration.
