Here’s some news the Bilkent community has been looking forward to hearing: the new university swimming pool is ready for use.
The pool is a half Olympic-size pool, 25 meters in length and 15 meters (6 lanes) wide, with a depth of 2.1 meters. The total enclosed area of the facility is approximately 2,000 square meters. The complex includes a terrace for sunning during the summer months.
The pool is located behind the Sports Center (Dormitories Sports Hall), with a covered walkway connecting the two facilities. Entrance to the pool is through the Sports Center.
The tentative weekly hours of operation are:
Tues.-Fri. 8 a.m. – 10:15 p.m.
Sat.-Sun. 9 a.m. – 10:15 p.m.
Mon. Closed for cleaning
The Sports Center has also developed a set of rules and regulations for pool use. The rules will be e-mailed to everyone and posted on the university website soon. Meanwhile, here are a few of the most important points to remember:
1. Because the pool is more than two meters deep, those who want to use it must be able to swim well.
2. A reservation system will be used to book lanes for swimming laps during certain hours of the day. Reservations for a lane should be made one day in advance.
3. Lanes will be allocated on the basis of swimming proficiency level. If you are unsure what your level is, the lifeguards at the pool can help you determine this.
• Lanes 1 and 6 – beginners
• Lanes 2 and 5 – intermediate
• Lanes 3 and 4 – advanced
