One of the TDP volunteer units, Günköy, carried out its main project of the current academic year during the weekend of December 6-7, working at a village school in Bartın, Amasra.
Günköy’s aim is to provide assistance to schools in villages where educational opportunities are limited. They endeavor to make improvements in a school’s facilities and resources and also to enrich the educational experiences of the children in the village.
At the school where they conducted their project this semester, the volunteers were separated into two groups. One group did repair work on the school building, painting and renovating a classroom for conversion into a library. The other group organized activities for the children, giving them a chance to do things that are not normally part of their school day. These activities included sports, music, art and science.
Günköy also prepared for the first time a class for children in the village with mental disabilities. And at the end of the weekend, the volunteers put on a theater show for all the children.
