Prof. Halil İnalcık, eminent Ottoman historian and founder of the Department of History at Bilkent, was commemorated at the Department of History on July 25, the second anniversary of his passing.
Those who spoke at the commemoration ceremony included Vice Rector Kürşat Aydoğan, Prof. Özer Ergenç of the Department of History and Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Kalpaklı, acting chair of the Department of History. All shared their personal recollections of Prof. İnalcık with commemoration attendees, who included his former students and colleagues as well as other members of the Bilkent community.
After the ceremony, Prof. İnalcık’s former room in the History Department, preserved in his memory, was opened to visitors.
