This semester, Department of Performing Arts students are presenting “Hamletmachine” as their junior project. The first performance took place on September 30 in the Bilkent Theater Hall; additional stagings are scheduled for 8 p.m. on October 7 and 21, in the same venue.
Written by Heiner Müller in East Germany in 1977, “Hamletmachine” is a postmodernist drama that borrows from Shakespeare, T.S. Eliot and Jean-Luc Godard, and deals not only with the ideas of communism and feminism, but also the notion of being trapped in a time or situation.
Cast members for this production of “Hamletmachine” are Doğuş Bilgin, Eyşan Dönmez, M. Doğukan Güllüpınar, Yağmur Seber and Seda Soysal. The director of the play is Gökhan Bolcan, with lighting design by Yılmaz Ertekin and costume design by Zülal Süer. Production assistants are Onur Dilek, Ayça Eren and Tugay Keşt.
Students taking GE 250–251 who attend the play will receive 20 points for the course.
Please note that only fully vaccinated audience members will be admitted to the theater without testing. Presentation of HES codes and vaccination cards will be required. Those who have opted not to be vaccinated will be asked to present negative PCR test results obtained 72 hours before the play.
