The Bilkent First Aid Instruction Center (Bilkent İlkyardım Eğitim Merkezi) at the Health Center is continuing to offer its certified first aid courses this semester.
Founded in 2005, the center provides first aid training given by six instructors specially trained in this field. A solid knowledge of first aid can be of critical importance even if there is no major emergency. Good first aid can prevent small accidents from becoming big problems—and you might even save a life!
The center’s first aid courses take place on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and consist of practical instruction. Participants then take an exam given by the local health authority to get their first aid certificates.
Bilkent staff and students who have taken the course say that it helped them develop skill and confidence in administering first aid. They also admit to having had a fun weekend!
The center additionally provides instruction to Tourism and Hotel Management students; THM 166-Health Studies has been offered as a required course since the 2011-2012 academic year. Other Bilkent students may also take the course as an elective or simply attend on a non-credit basis.
The weekend courses accommodate 14 participants and are open to both students and staff. Those who would like to attend should send an e-mail to dur@bilkent.edu.tr.
