A project by Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design fourth-year student Beril Kamel has been shortlisted as a finalist in a global design competition. Her interior design for the renovation of an old soap factory as a boutique hotel in Urla, İzmir, is one of five projects to be named finalists in the student/recent graduate category of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) Design Distinction Awards.
As an international federating body for interior architecture/design associations, the IFI constitutes a global network of nearly a quarter-million professionals and educators. The annual Design Distinction Awards, presented in 10 categories, “recognize excellence in the design outcome of built projects and offer a quality peer-reviewed assessment of completed interiors from across the world.”The 2019 finalists have been invited to the IFI Congress, to be held in Dubai in February 2020, where the winners will be announced at a special ceremony and gala dinner.
