Three fourth-year Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students have recently been presented with awards in two contexts, one in Turkey and the other international.
Göksu Erkoç and Selahaddin Topselvi won first prize in the Zeki Yurtbay Design Award competition organized by Yurtbay Seramik in collaboration with Yapı Medya İletişim. The purpose of the Yurtbay Design Awards is to provide a professional platform for young designers to present their original ideas for designs incorporating ceramic surfaces. The theme of this year’s competition was “Habitat.”
Selahaddin was also awarded a travel stipend from the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Education Trust, as was fellow IAED student Gökberk Tezer. Selahaddin and Gökberk, along with other winners of the 2020 IALD International Lighting Design Awards, will be recognized at the association’s gala dinner and awards ceremony on May 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The stipends will enable the two Bilkent students to travel abroad again in the fall to attend the IALD’s annual “Enlighten” conferences. In October, Gökberk will fly to Palm Springs, California, for the Enlighten Americas conference, while Selahattin will travel to Oslo, Norway, in November for the Enlighten Europe event. During the conferences, they will attend seminars, workshops and special networking events for students.
