February 25, 2019, marks the ninth year since the loss of our beloved founder, Prof. İhsan Doğramacı. To commemorate the anniversary of Prof. Doğramacı’s passing, the Mevlit will be recited at the Doğramacızade Ali Paşa Mosque on Monday, February 25, following the noon prayers. For those who wish to attend, buses will depart from the Rektörlük building (B-block) at 1 p.m.
On the evening of that day, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra will give a concert dedicated to the memory of Prof. Doğramacı, who was a lifelong music lover. The orchestra, conducted by Gürer Aykal, will perform pieces by Chausson, Rachmaninov and Brahms, with Emre Yavuz as piano soloist and Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev as violin soloist.
An additional musical event in memory of Prof. Doğramacı will take place later in the week, on Wednesday, February 27. The Bilkent Music Days series will offer a “Tribute to Hocabey,” with Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished”) played by the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Rustam Rahmedov and featuring Bilkent FMPA soloists.
Both concerts will take place in the Bilkent Concert Hall at 8 p.m.
