February 25, 2020, marks the 10th year since the loss of our beloved founder, Prof. İhsan Doğramacı. On that day and during the following weekend, a number of events will be held on campus to commemorate the anniversary of Prof. Doğramacı’s passing.
On Tuesday, February 25, the Mevlit will be recited at the Doğramacızade Ali Paşa Mosque following the noon prayers. For those who wish to attend, buses will depart from the Rektörlük Building (B-block) at 12:45 p.m.
At 3 p.m. that day, a panel to commemorate İhsan Doğramacı on the 10th anniversary of his passing will take place in Mithat Çoruh Auditorium. The panel will be in Turkish; panelists are Bilkent University student Edanur Akyüz, Prof. Enver Hasanoğlu, Prof. Tezer Kutluk, Asst. Prof. Rasim Özyürek and Prof. Hamza Zülfikar.
In the evening, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra will give a concert dedicated to the memory of Prof. Doğramacı. The orchestra, conducted by Gürer Aykal, will perform pieces by Beethoven, with İdil Biret as piano soloist.
On Saturday, February 29, the Bilkent Chamber Music Days series will offer a “Tribute to Hocabey,” with Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme” and Beethoven’s “Leonore” Overture played by the Bilkent Symphony Youth Orchestra under the baton of conductor Işın Metin.
