The short animation film “Fish Out of Water” by Nur Özkaya (COMD ’21) has been listed on the long international watch list for Short Film Animation Oscar 2023 by Animation Magazine in the US. Although this is not a final nomination, it recognizes Özkaya’s achievement through qualifying awards and national recognition.
Özkaya’s animation film was her graduation project with advisor Maria Brzozowska (MFA ’16). This experimental film portrays the experiences of individuals who feel lost or unable to adapt to the expectations of society.
The film was also awarded second prize at the MAU Anifest, an animation festival held by the Maltepe University Faculty of Fine Arts.
Additionally, Özkaya recently won an award with her latest animation film “There Is Nothing Called Home” at a festival in Ordu.
