On February 16, the Bilkent University Faculty of Law held a symposium on the pledge of movables in commercial transactions. This was the first such conference held on the topic subsequent to the enactment of the new Code on the Pledge of Movables in Commercial Transactions in 2017. The enactment of this code was an important – albeit controversial – legal step intended to ease the access of small- and medium-sized enterprises to financing.
The conference, which comprised four sessions, began with opening remarks by Prof. Erden Kuntalp, a member of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Turgut Tan, dean of the Faculty of Law, and Rector Abdullah Atalar.
The event brought together approximately 200 participants, including prominent scholars of civil law, commercial law and civil procedure law, as well as legal practitioners and representatives of the relevant public institutions. Presentations were made by Prof. Lale Sirmen, Prof. Saibe Oktay Özdemir, Prof. Zühtü Aytaç, Prof. Serkan Ergüne, Prof. Turgut Öz, Prof. Sabih Arkan, Prof. Çiğdem Kırca, Prof. Ali Erten, Prof. Mustafa Alper Gümüş, Prof. Ejder Yılmaz, Fatih Aydoğan, Mehmet Mücahit Arvas and Burcu Coşkun.
