Last Thursday, the Library’s new Student Seminar Series started with a presentation by AMER student Mert Önal. He began by remembering the late Prof. Talât Halman, who, as dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Letters, had encouraged all students to be scholars. Mert’s wide-ranging and detailed talk was concerned with the development and effects of “neoliberal economics” over the past few decades, especially in the US. Drawing upon a variety of research sources, he focused his discussion on the issue of wage inequality in the US and Turkey. The talk concluded with questions from Bilkent students and instructors.
The seminar series will continue next month and in April. Any students who are interested in presenting should contact the Library with their topics and ideas.
