The Bilkent’s men’s table tennis team is set to compete in this season’s collegiate competition and is aiming for big results. One of the team’s members, Efekan Kökcü (CS/IV), briefly shared his thoughts on the team’s current situation and its goals for this season.
What is the highest standing achieved by the Bilkent’s men’s table tennis team in competition to this point?
We reached the final 16 stage of the national collegiate championships in the 2013-14 season.
What are the team’s goals for this season?
We need to be disciplined and come to practice on a regular basis. We’re also thinking of organizing friendly matches with nearby universities such as METU and Hacettepe. Last season, we participated in a city league, and we’re planning to do so this year too.
Unfortunately, due to some administrative issues, we can’t compete in the national collegiate league this season; we can only compete in the national collegiate championships, which means we will play fewer competitive matches.
Our most immediate aim is to increase the quality of our training sessions. In the championships, let’s hope we’ll get a favorable draw and go deep in the tournament.
Let’s wish the table tennis team good luck, and hope that Bilkent’s flag will fly high at the championships!
