The International Women Poets Forum, supported by UNESCO, was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, March 12-15. Müesser Yeniay, a PhD student in the Department of Turkish Literature, attended the forum as a representative of Turkey.
The forum was organized as part of the “Great Silk Road” project, with the intent of creating a platform to provide for cultural exchange. It was also connected to UNESCO’s World Poetry Day, held annually on March 21.
On the first day of the forum, women poets aged 18-35, who also had some knowledge of English, presented their poems in their own languages, with translation provided for the international audience. On the second day, groups were formed to discuss subjects related to literature, culture and women, with cultural activities and tours taking place on the third day.
