Prof. Mustafa Ç. Pınar of the Department of Industrial Engineering has published a new book titled “Doğrusal Optimizasyondan Çıkış: Ders Notları” (An Exit From Linear Programming: Lecture Notes), recently released by Seçkin Publishing.
Drawing on Prof. Pınar’s 30 years of course and research experience, the book consists of lecture notes that provide a fresh look at linear programming, which has been extremely popular since the 1950s and the advent of electronic computers.
The work first introduces the subject with some new engineering and economics applications of the linear programming technique, and then goes on to the mathematical foundations of the problems, reinforcing the concepts with numerous applications and exercises. Duality theory is particularly emphasized and is clearly presented, with a number of examples. After discussing the simplex method and interior point algorithms, the book concludes by briefly introducing some practical calculation tools.
Although intended for use in undergraduate- and graduate-level courses at universities, the book can also serve as a reference source for engineers, researchers and practitioners interested in this subject, as well as an auxiliary resource for engineering and economics departments.
