Organized by Bilkent University and the Embassy of Azerbaijan, a panel to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the death of Azerbaijan’s former president Haydar Aliyev was held on December 12 at Mithat Çoruh Auditorium.
The program began with opening speeches by Dr. Rasim Özyürek, director of Bilkent’s Training Programs for Regional Countries; Prof. Kürşat Aydoğan, Bilkent University vice rector for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Necdet Ünüvar, head of the Turkish Parliament’s Turkey-Azerbaijan Friendship Group; and Ramil Gurbanov, undersecretary at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ankara.
The event continued with the panel, titled “Haydar Aliyev’s Services to His Country and the Turkish World.” Panelists Dr. Özyürek, Dr. Emirullah Mehmetov (Bilkent University NANOTAM) and Asst. Prof. Tolga Yayalar (chair of the Bilkent University Department of Music) discussed Mr. Aliyev’s contributions as Azerbaijan’s leader and Turkey’s friend.
The program ended with a concert by the Bilkent String Quartet.
