As part of the 2021-2022 Sustainability Year at Bilkent University, students in the Faculty of Engineering’s Science Technology and Society (STS) course examined sustainability issues for their fall 2021 term projects. On December 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the Faculty will showcase student work at the STS Sustainability Award evening. The event will take place in Mithat Çoruh Auditorium.Projects will be recognized for emphasizing various aspects of sustainability, including public benefits, innovation, social justice and energy futures. The jury, Prof. Didem Dizdaroğlu, Prof. Selin Kocaman and Prof. Haldun Özaktaş, will choose the award winners from a group of ten finalists. The award recipients will give short presentations on their projects at the event.
Two sustainability specialists, Mete İmer and Prof. Jeremy Kent Hall, will start off the evening with short talks on sustainability. Mr. İmer, secretary general of and a member of the executive committee at the Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Recovery and Recycling Foundation (ÇEVKO), will give an online talk on sustainability and environmental protection.
Prof. Hall, director of the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex and editor of the Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, will give a brief talk on the importance of sustainability in innovation practices. Prof. Hall has contributed extensively to innovation studies through his emphasis on social values, including sustainability.
