Lately, our campus has started to get a lot of sunshine compared to what we saw during the gray winter that’s now behind us. Although it’s tempting to lie on the grass all day and skip every single class, I suggest we use the anesthetic effect of the sun in the opposite way, as a little force to push ourselves and finish this semester at full gallop.
“Sunlight” by Modestep
Although the lyrics of this hit song by the British electronic music band hint at looking away from the sunlight, they also give a direct message (the song has only four lines of lyrics) about moving on, and I like that. A long summer is awaiting us, and it’s high time that we make plans, either for vacation or to accomplish a goal. What’s important is the idea of stepping up your game and taking control. I can’t think of a better song to make you feel you want to do exactly that.
“Sunset Lover” by Petit Biscuit
Put on your best set of headphones, go outside, and focus on your breathing. To me, the best places on campus for doing this are the benches overlooking the grass area outside Dorm 76, and the bridge connecting G and A Buildings. Thankfully, a soothing breeze is never lacking in Ankara – one of the capital’s few advantages – and this is the song to listen to when you want to isolate yourself from others and be one with the air that surrounds you.
“Sun Comes Out” by Decco & Leo Stannard
I hate to break it to you, but this one is for those who are in love. The best thing about a relationship isn’t the fact that you’re in one, but rather the certainty of the state of loving someone. For those hopeful romantics out there, for those who love loving for the sake of loving: you’ll relate to this. But summer is approaching, and needless to say, we get more and more susceptible to falling in love during this time of the year, so good luck to everyone else too.
“Sun Is Shining” by Axwell /\ Ingrosso
Remember what I said above, about stepping up? This will help us along the way. I know inspiring people has become a daily activity lately, and the term “inspiration” may have lost its value. As unfortunate as that is, there’s not much to say against the lyrics “Sun is shining / And so are you.” I have a stupid smile on my face while writing this, and so will you when you listen to this song.
“The Sun” by Parov Stelar (feat. Graham Candy)
I’ll go ahead and say that this isn’t an old song (although it sure feels like it), as it’s been only three years since it came out. It may have had a short life, and we may not be hearing it much today, but it’s a decent song with a vibe that suits this list. Give it a jiggle.
“The House of the Rising Sun” by the Animals
We had our joy, and we got our push. We lay on the grass and contemplated the sun. We removed negativity and potential obstacles from our way. We ran, and we fought, and we let it all out of our systems. Now, it’s time to plan. Steady as we go, we’ll assess what we’ve already completed and what’s still to be done. We have time to figure things out, and, with a bit of luck, times will be good.
Jokes and philosophy aside, put on some sunscreen before you leave in the morning, guys. Enjoy this summer that came in a day!
