Elman Mecid, a graduate of the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts Music Preparatory School, has received the Aydın Gün Encouragement Award. Given by the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) since 2012, the award is granted to promising young Turkish classical musicians in the fields of instrument, voice, composition and conducting.
Born in Ankara to a family of musicians, Elman began his education at the Bilkent Faculty of Music and Performing Arts Music Preparatory School in 2002. He started his musical training with Gülnara Aziz, and in 2006 began studying percussion with Aydın Mecid.
He has won numerous prizes in his age category at international competitions: first prize at the Pendim International Percussion Competition (Bulgaria) in 2009, fourth at the Nutcracker International Young Talents Competition (Russia) in 2009, first and third at the International Giornate della Percussione Competition (Italy) in 2010, second at the Perkulliria International Percussion Competition (Spain) in 2011, and first prize and Special Jury Prize at the Marimba Competition (Germany) in 2012.
Elman has performed in many concerts at home and abroad both as an orchestra member and a soloist throughout his school years. Since 2015, he has been performing as a supporting artist with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. He currently studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre with Cornelia Monske.
