Bilkent University has been ranked 37th in the Times Higher Education (THE) “BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings” for 2017. The list of the top universities in this category was announced on November 30. Bilkent was ranked 41st last year.
The BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings include only institutions in countries classified as “advanced emerging,” “secondary emerging” or “frontier” by FTSE, among them the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
The rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship THE World University Rankings to judge institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. But they are recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies.
Worldwide, Peking University ranked first. Seven universities in Turkey, including Bilkent, were listed in the top 100. The others were: Koç University (15), Sabancı University (18), Boğaziçi University (39), İstanbul Technical University (51), Atılım University (62) and Middle East Technical University (80).
