What do you like best about Turkey?
I particularly like the people in Turkey. Everyone is very kind, welcoming and supportive despite the cultural differences and communication barriers.
Are there any similarities between Turkey and your home country?
As funny as it may sound, potatoes! Back home we consume a lot of potatoes and from what I have experienced, Turkish people also love them.
What will you miss most about Bilkent/Turkey?
I will miss the friends I have made since my arrival. We have been building a strong connection and by the time we leave everyone will feel like family.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and why?
My favorite place on campus is Bilka because that is where my friends and I come together to meet up after classes.
What’s your favorite Turkish food and/or favorite part of Turkish culture?
There is not one single Turkish dish that I would consider my favorite. Everything tastes great a result of the many fresh ingredients and the huge variety that Turkish cuisine offers.
Where do you expect to see yourself 10 years from now?
By then I will be 32 years old, so logically I see myself having a proper career, a family and a lovely place to go home to.
What’s the hardest challenge you’ve handled in Turkey?
Up until now, the hardest challenge I’ve handled was my arrival to Ankara a month ago. My flight came in late at night and I had difficulties getting a taxi from the airport because of my lack of Turkish speaking skills. Luckily there was someone who helped me at the airport and with checking into the dorms.
What places have you visited in Turkey, and which one is your favorite?
So far, I’ve had the opportunity to visit a few places: Ankara, İzmir, Alanya and Beypazarı. There is not one place I like the most since they all have different aspects that I value.
What’s an interesting question or comment you hear frequently at Bilkent/in Turkey?
I often get comments about my height. I guess I am considered tall here, which to me is surprising since back home I am basically an average height girl.
