Last month, Bilkent International House (BIH) conducted its second “Think Pink” campaign, geared toward increasing awareness regarding breast cancer. The campaign, organized by a group of Turkish and international students, took place on October 20 and 21.
First held last year as an initiative of BIH members, the campaign was the first-ever breast cancer awareness project undertaken at Bilkent University. This year, Think Pink activities spanned two days; students taking GE250/251 received points for the course by participating.
On the first day, BIH members set up a stand in front of A Building, where they conducted games and activities to raise awareness regarding the disease in an interesting and informative manner. A quiz game gave participants the chance to win a mini-cupcake by correctly answering questions about breast cancer, while a social media competition that asked students to post pictures of themselves with the Breast Cancer Awareness photo frame on Instagram offered candy floss as a prize. In addition, all students visiting the stall were handed informative flyers. The events were organized in such a way that they created direct awareness through sharing of information, as well as a larger platform where Bilkent students learned about the on-campus campaign through various social media outlets.
The second day of the campaign featured a flash mob, as students, many clad in pink, gathered outside FF Building to form a pink human ribbon, symbolizing solidarity with breast cancer victims and survivors. A video was also filmed, showcasing the efforts behind this event as well as its completion.

Bilkent International House aims to continue to raise awareness in its community through such socially responsible projects. Students with ideas relevant to this goal are welcome to contact the club in order to put their plans into action.
