As “Brief Encounter” the most romantic movie of all time? Join Bilkent Cinematics on Wednesday, March 14, and decide for yourself.
David Lean’s 1945 classic was based on a Noel Coward play and tells the story of Londoners Laura and Alec (Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard), who are both married, but fall in love through a series of discreet “brief encounters.” Nonetheless, neither wants to disrupt their marriage, so what to do? It’s a heartrending dilemma for both; the film’s final scene is justifiably famous.
David Lean’s beautiful meditation on the temptations of love is not to be missed. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw calls it “a masterpiece of romantic cinema.”
“Brief Encounter” screens on Wednesday, March 14, at 6 p.m. in FFB5. Everyone is welcome. All Cinematics movies are shown with English subtitles, and snacks and beverages are offered. For more details, contact Hossein Dabir at dabir@bilkent.edu.tr.
