This Week’s Bilkent Cinematics Screening: “Rashomon”

In medieval Japan, a story of rape and murder, told from four very different perspectives: this is “Rashomon” (1950), acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa’s extraordinary tale that eloquently reveals the difficulty of both truth-telling and storytelling, and how the truth is sometimes almost impossible to determine.  In the world of “Rashomon,” self-interest collides with the truth.

Starring Masayuki Mori, Machiko Kyo and Kurasawa’s great acting muse, Toshiro Mifune, “Rashomon” is, in the words of critic Pauline Kael, “one of the great film experiences…it has its own perfection.”

Bilkent Cinematics will screen “Rashomon” on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in FFB-22. As always, junk food and other refreshments will be served, and prizes will be given away!  Informal and friendly discussion always follows. All are welcome.
