On November 28–29, two representatives of The Broadmoor, a historic luxury resort in the state of Colorado in the USA, visited the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management. Vice President of Human Resources Cindy Johnson and Food and Beverage Director Osanna Frey were looking to recruit interns for either 6- or 12-month periods, including an opportunity after graduation.
After having interviews with students, Ms. Johnson and Ms. Frey made very positive comments on the THM program and the high quality of its instruction. The visit marked the start of a collaborative relationship between the department and The Broadmoor to provide internship opportunities in the USA on a J-1 visa for THM students.
On the second day of the visit, Ms. Johnson also gave a talk as part of the THM420 Seminars on the Tourism Industry course. Speaking on the topic “Interviewing: Your Path to Success,” she shared some important tips on writing resumes and obtaining interviews. Ms. Johnson noted that a good resume should highlight three things about the person, as HR staff have only around 30 seconds to review a resume. She also stressed the importance of describing the results of any previous internship experiences.
Every year, THM welcomes a number of tourism and hospitality property representatives for internship and recruitment opportunities. Those who visited the department this year included representatives of the Hilton Ankara Hotel, the JW Marriott Hotel Ankara, Club Med Kemer, Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Bodrum, The Bodrum Edition Hotel, D Maris Bay Datça Peninsula and Hapimag Hotel Bodrum.
