The 10th International Turkish Language Assembly was held jointly by Bilkent University and Sarajevo University in Sarajevo last week. One hundred forty-seven representatives from a number of countries met September 28-October 1 to discuss developments and new findings concerning the Turkish language.
Scholars from Turkey and elsewhere took part in sessions addressing a wide variety of topics, including the sources and history of the Turkish language, Turkish grammar and etymology, the teaching of Turkish and issues regarding the usage of Turkish.
The assembly opened with speeches by Dr. Kerima Filan (Sarajevo University), Dr. Rasim Özyürek (director of Bilkent University’s Training Programs for Regional Countries), Mehmet Akit Yaman (Sarajevo Yunus Emre Institute), Dr. Salih Foco (Sarajevo University), Dr. Muharem Avdispahic (rector of Sarajevo University), Enver Hasanoğlu (Turkish-Azerbaijani Friendship, Cooperation and Solidarity organization), Hayati Develi (Yunus Emre Institute) and Cihad Erginay (Turkish ambassador in Bosnia and Herzegovina).
