On December 20, the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management held an award ceremony to announce the winners of a competition that tasked IAED students with designing a new look for the interior of R Building, including Le Piment Rouge Restaurant.
The R Building, located on East Campus, is home to the THM department and its practice restaurant, Le Piment Rouge. The competition, which involved months of work on the part of IAED students and faculty, marked the start of a collaborative relationship between the two departments.
The ceremony attracted a large audience of faculty members, students and guests. Among those in attendance were Assoc. Prof. Yasemin Afacan, acting chair of the IAED department; Dr. Erkan Uçar, associate director of the School of Applied Technology and Management; Asst. Prof. Eda Gürel, acting chair of the THM department; Güneş Karamullaoğlu, assistant chair of THM; and Derya Duman, acting general manager of the Ankara HiltonSA Hotel, the competition’s sponsor.
The winners were: first prize, İdil Asil, Işıl Özgön, Melda Çevikel and Müge Sarıgöl; second prize, Sanem Özdemir, Berke Görgülü, Ecem Özer and Dilay Bölükbaşı; and third prize, Nur Küçükkömürcü, Gamze Üyrüş and Feyza Özel. IAED instructors Funda Ataylar, Ertan Ergin, Turhan Kayasü, Eda Kutay, Zeynep Öktem, Assoc. Prof. Afacan, Asst. Prof. Çağrı İmamoğlu, Dr. Alper Küçük and Dr. Sibel Ural advised and assisted the students in their work.
