Snowmageddon in Ankara


On March 9 and 10, about 30 centimeters of snow fell in Ankara. High winds and very cold temperatures exacerbated the situation. Drifts formed, and as snow melted in the daytime on Wednesday, low nighttime temperatures caused the wet streets and sidewalks to freeze, making walking and driving treacherous. Records indicate that this is the worst snowstorm in Ankara in 10 years and the worst in March in over 25 years. For the safety of students and academic and administrative staff the University was closed on Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10.

Career Fair to Host 37 Firms

This year's Career Fair will take place on Thursday, March 17. This will be a great opportunity for Bilkent students to meet representatives from different companies and learn about their recruitment policies. There will be educational seminars on campus, with the annual Career Fair taking place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Main Sports Hall.

This is a perfect chance for Bilkenters to get a better idea of what their future may look like by talking directly to executives and employees from a variety of big companies. If you are looking for an internship, this event is an excellent place to explore possibilities.

Azerbaijani Minister Speaks on Regional Issues

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Beyukaga oglu Azimov visited Bilkent Bilkent University on March 11 to deliver a seminar titled,  "The Security of Southern Caucasia and Azerbaijan-Turkey Cooperation." Mr. Azimov, deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan since 1994, was born in Baku, Azerbaijan in 1963, attended Azerbaijan State University from 1978 to 1984, and holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. He opened the seminar by saying "I am pleased to be a guest for the first time at Bilkent University."
