Nermin Fenmen Appointed Jury Member for WOC2012

The International Orienteering Federation has appointed Bilkent instructor Nermin Fenmen as one of the five jury members for the World Orienteering Championships, scheduled to take place in Switzerland in July. This is the first time a member from Turkey has been appointed to the jury for an international event at such a high level in the sport.

In an orienteering event, the jury handles complaints that cannot be resolved by the organizer. In other words, the jury acts as a kind of supreme court to resolve protests concerning infringements of rules during the competition. Members of the jury are required to be competent in all rules pertaining to the event. They must also have proven themselves unbiased and able to make decisions under pressure.

Nermin Fenmen is a licensed orienteer and actively competes in orienteering competitions in Turkey and abroad. She is certified as an event adviser by the International Orienteering Federation in both foot orienteering and mountain bike orienteering.

In addition to courses in the field of computer programming and database applications, she also teaches the course PE205-Orienteering offered by the Bilkent Physical Education and Sports Center.
