"İş Dünyası Oturumları" Group Meets with Central Bank President Erdem Başçı

The Bilkent Engineering Society's "İş Dünyası Oturumları" (Business World Sessions) group recently met with Erdem Başçı, president of the Central Bank of Turkey, in Dr. Başçı's office at the Central Bank.

At the meeting, Dr. Başçı first talked about his education and career, from his time as a student at Middle East Technical University and then an MBA and PhD candidate at Bilkent, to his current position at the Central Bank of Turkey. In answer to a question about the career transition he made from engineering to economics, he illustrated the difference with an image: when an engineer "pushes a button" to come up with a solution in that field, an expected result occurs. In economics, however, there is no such specific result.

Dr. Başçı also talked about the world's economic situation with regard to key countries in this area. The experiences of Greece and other European countries were discussed with reference to that of Turkey. In addition, Dr. Başçı spoke about the importance of the Central Bank's role in Turkey's growing economy.
