Eastern Mediterranean University's Library Named for Prof. Oral

On March 27, the library of Eastern Mediterranean University was named in honor of Prof. Özay Oral, faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Prof. Oral served as rector of Eastern Mediterranean University from 1992-2003.

Prof. Oral received his PhD from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Middle East Technical University, where he later served as chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and vice rector. In 1986 he joined Bilkent University, and contributed to the founding of the university as provost and dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences.

In 1992 Prof. Oral was appointed rector of Eastern Mediterranean University, where his many contributions over more than a decade have now been honored by the naming of the university's library. He returned to the Bilkent Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2003.

Prof. Oral's other awards and honors include the TÜBİTAK Young Scientist Award in 1978, the TÜBİTAK Science Award in 1985 and an IEEE Fellowship in 1995.
