Songs To Listen To: April
1. Haerts - Wings (Wildcat!Wildcat! Remix)
Haerts is a New York-based band, and “Wings” is their first and only released single. Their debut album is due in 2013. The single was released at the end of March, and this Wildcat!Wildcat! remix came out less than a week later. The remix by the Los Angeles-based electro/indie/pop trio has made the song even better. This is my favorite track in this list.
2. Phoenix - Entertainment (Blood Orange Remix)
Phoenix is a French indie rock band, and they are quite famous. At the end of this month, on April 22 to be precise, they will release their fifth album, "Bankrupt!" "Entertainment" is the first single on the album. In Blood Orange's remix of the song, we also hear vocals by MKS (Mutya-Keisha-Siobhan: the original Sugababes), and I have to admit that this remix is more exciting than the original version.
3. Charli XCX - What I Like
Twenty-one-year-old Charlotte Aitchison, aka Charli XCX, is a synthpop/indietronica artist from England. "What I Like" is from her upcoming debut album, due out April 16.
4. ColeCo - Things Ain't The Same
Canadian disco music duo ColeCo has released two EPs to date and become increasingly famous with the support of successful music producers like Moon Boots and The Magician. I am a total fan and very happy about the new single "Things Ain't The Same."
5. Tuxedo - So Good
Tuxedo is a name I hadn't heard of before -- they are a total mystery. There are three very fun, good songs on their Soundcloud page. "So Good" is a catchy RnB song, which makes you feel like you're in the 90s.
6. Laura Mvula - Sing To The Moon
I've mentioned Laura Mvula so many times in the previous months. Last month she released her debut album, "Sing To The Moon," and I've finally listened to the whole thing. This song is another favorite from the album, along with "Green Garden."
7. Haim - Falling (Duke Dumont Remix)
I think everyone is sick of hearing the name "Haim" from me, but I'm totally obsessed with them, and apparently I'm not the only one. I found this remix in The Magician's Magic Tape 31, and even though it's not as good as the original song, it's still a good remix.
8. Lulu James - Closer (Kidnap Kid Remix)
Lulu James is another 21-year-old English artist, and she describes her music as 21st-century soul. Her music is a combination of dance, soul, pop and RnB, and this Kidnap Kid remix is another discovery thanks to The Magician's Magic Tape 31.
9. Active Child - Evening Ceremony
Pat Grossi, aka Active Child, is a US-based dream pop/shoegaze artist. His debut album, "You Are All I See," was released in 2011 and became a favorite of music blogs like Pitchfork. Grossi recently released a new single for the science fiction movie "The Host," and it's total love-at-first-listen.
10. Dale Earnhart Jr. Jr. - If You Didn't See Me (Then You Weren't On The Dancefloor)
Dale Earnhart Jr. Jr. is an indie-pop duo from Detroit, and this single is from their upcoming EP, due out April 16.
11. Junip - Your Life, Your Call
Junip is a three-piece rock band from Sweden, consisting of José González, Elias Araya and Tobias Winterkorn. "Your Life, Your Call" is from their new album, "Junip."
12. CocoRosie - After The Afterlife
I'm not a CocoRosie fan, but I'm a big "Beautiful Boyz" fan and still waiting for them to do a song that's as beautiful. Their new album, "Tales of a GrassWidow," will be self-released on May 28.
13. !!! - One Girl/One Boy
Pronounced "Chk Chk Chk," !!! is a Californian dance-punk band. "One Girl/One Boy" is a disco song, which will be released on their new and fifth album, "THR!!!LLER." Actually I wouldn't have been that excited about the album, but thanks to this song, I'm now definitely looking forward to it.
14. Jessie Ware - Imagine It Was Us
Jessie Ware is an English soul/RnB/pop artist. Her debut album, "Devotion," was released in August 2012, and this song is a bonus track for the album's US release.
15. Club 8 - Stop Taking My Time
Swedish indie-pop duo Club 8 released their previous album in 2010. After a three-year hiatus, they will be releasing a new album on May 21. This song is the first single from it, and if it's any indication, the new album will be synthier than their last one.
