Romanian Students Visit Ankara to Discuss "Green Europe"

Last week, 50 students from a number of departments in the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering hosted 12 Romanian students from the University of Bucharest. The hosts are members of the European Union Projects Platform of the Strategic Thought Society, a Bilkent student organization.

The Ankara visit, which took place April 8-15 with the support of an 11,000 euro grant from the National Agency for EU youth programs and the Ministry for EU Affairs, was part of the EU youth project, "Dreaming of Europe: Green Dreams." The project focuses on renewable energy, ecology and the green market.

In meetings that took place over the course of the week, both Romanian and Turkish participants made presentations about environmental topics and discussed the future of Europe from this perspective. In addition, the Romanian students had the opportunity to meet Rector Abdullah Atalar and talk with him about the project during their visit to Bilkent. They stated that they were happy to be here, and were impressed by both the university and its students.

While in Ankara, the guests visited several cultural, natural and historic sites in the area, including Anıtkabir, the War of Independence Museum/Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Natural History Museum and Hamamönü.
