Prof. Nesim Erkip Appointed Assoc. Provost
As of February 1, Güliz Ger, associate provost and professor in Faculty of Business Administration, will take a sabbatical leave. Prof. Ger will leave her position as associate provost effective on February 1. Professor Nesim Erkip from the Department of Industrial Engineering has been appointed to replace her as associate provost.
Rector Abdullah Atalar expressed his gratitude to departing Associate Provost Ger: "We are grateful to Professor Ger for her devoted services to the Bilkent community. Her administrative contributions for the past 12 years have been exemplary." Rector Atalar also welcomed Prof. Erkip to his new post: "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Professor Erkip on his new position and wish him every success in his new administrative role."
Prof. Erkip received his M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University and his B.S. from METU. He has been teaching since 1979 and has held visiting and research positions in the U.S and Holland. He visited the U.S as a Fulbright Scholar in 1995. He has long served higher education in Ankara, at METU and at Bilkent where he joined in 2005. Prof. Erkip has been an invited speaker at some of the preeminent universities in Europe and the U.S. He is a leading scholar in field of industrial engineering and has published many academic papers, reports, and book chapters. He worked at the Scientific and Technological Research Institute of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), has mentored dozens of M.S. and Ph.D. students, and served as an associate editor in a few journals. Currently, he serves in the editorial board of Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal, a new journal by Springer. Prof. Erkip is a member of the TED University, Board of Trustees.
Prof. Erkip's promotion to the position of associate provost will allow him to use his considerable administrative experience to benefit the entire Bilkent academic community.
