Bilkent Symphony Orchestra to Perform Ankara Premier of Fazıl Say Compositions
On Saturday, February 26, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra conducted by Işın Metin will perform Fazıl Say's 1001 Nights at the Harem Concerto for Violin, and two Ankara premiers, Nirvana Burning Concerto for Piano and Concerto for Trumpet, Op. 31, with trumpeter Gabor Boldoczki, pianist Özgür Aydın, and Priya Mitchell, violin.
On March 3-4, music lovers will have an opportunity to hear Fazıl Say, the well-known Turkish pianist, present a program consisting of his own composition Istanbul Symphony, in its Ankara premiere, and G. Gershwin's Concerto for Piano in F major. Say will perform with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gürer Aykal.
The Istanbul Symphony features the beauty of the seven-hilled city of İstanbul. Say's work is made up of seven parts, and each features a different side of Istanbul under a different title. He uses traditional instruments like the reed flute, kanun, bendir, and drum in his symphony, which includes the following parts: "Nostalji" (Nostalgia), "Tarikat" (Religious Order), "Sultan Ahmet Camii" (Blue Mosque), "Hoş Giyimli Genç Kızlar Adalar Vapurunda" (Merrily Clad Young Ladies Aboard the Ferry to the Prince's Islands), "Haydarpaşa Garından Anadolu'ya Gidenler Üzerine" (About the Travelers to Anatolia Departing from the Haydarpaşa Train Station), "Alem Gecesi" (Carousal Night) and "Final" (Finale).
