February 25, 2011 marks the first anniversary of the loss of our beloved founder Hocabey, Prof. İhsan Doğramacı.

A commemoration ceremony will be held to pay tribute to Prof. İhsan Doğramacı on the anniversary of his passing at the Bilkent Concert Hall following a Mevlit.

Bilkent Loses Osman Altan, February 15

During an explosion in the security gate booth located at the East Campus entrance 2 on Tuesday, February 15 at 11:15 p.m., a member of the Bilkent University security staff was fatally injured.

The security officer, Mr. Osman Altan, was rushed to Numune Hospital with very serious burns. Unfortunately, Mr. Altan eventually succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Thursday, February 17 at the hospital where he was being treated.

Prof. Heper Publishes New Book on Turkey's Political Life

Prof. Metin Heper, dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences, vice rector for academic affairs, and founder and honorary member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences has published a new book, Türkiye’nin Siyasal Hayatı: Tarihsel, Kuramsal ve Karşılaştırmalı Açıdan (Turkey's Political Life: A Historical, Theoretical and Comparative Perspectives), İstanbul: Doğan Kitap, 2011.

In his book, Prof. Heper brings his enormous experience to the question of basic political difficulties in Turkey's recent past. The book brings together in one place translations of Prof. Heper's selected articles and chapters in edited volumes (twenty altogether) published internationally in English.

Bilkent Symphony Orchestra to Perform Ankara Premier of Fazıl Say Compositions


On Saturday, February 26, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra conducted by Işın Metin will perform Fazıl Say's 1001 Nights at the Harem Concerto for Violin, and two Ankara premiers, Nirvana Burning Concerto for Piano and Concerto for Trumpet, Op. 31, with trumpeter Gabor Boldoczki, pianist Özgür Aydın, and Priya Mitchell, violin.
