Bilkent News Picture Challenge
I Know Where You've Been This Week

BY TULYA KAVAKLIOĞLU (MBG/IV)

Hello everyone! Take a look at this picture here. Do you know where this is on our campus? If you do can, go ahead and mail us your answer because a right guess has a chance to win a coffee or a lunch.

I bet some people, without even thinking, made their guess last week in favor of Meteksan Bookstore when they saw an image of a bookstore.

Unfortunately, those were not books but postcards, and the right place was not Meteksan at all. They were from the best place to get some postcards in campus, the UNICEF office next to Student Council.

This week I am going to tell a story about a tree located across the UNICEF office. In late 1980s, the first years of our university, this tree started to die because of the chemicals used in the construction of new buildings. Knowing this, students in the Department of Fine Arts got permission to use the tree as a "wish tree." They painted it with colorful dyes and tied many ribbons around the branches of the tree. Every year people continued making wishes by tying up ribbons, until the tree suddenly started to return back to life. Within 2 or 3 years it totally recovered and gave life to its green leaves. At the moment it is a huge tree, standing happily across UNICEFs office, welcoming every charitable act.

Please do not forget that graduation is close, so if you are interested in taking over this corner, feel free to contact the Communications Unit (bilnews@bilkent.edu.tr).
Prizes will be: The first two correct answers win coffee from Coffee Break.

The 15th correct answer wins lunch for one from Le Piment Rouge. iletisim@bilkent.edu.tr
